Our Therapeutic Day Programs

Children with special needs, notably autism spectrum disorder, ADHD or other behavioural or developmental challenges can often benefit from alternative or supplementary day programming. Enter specialized, individualized therapeutic programming with high support for behavioural challenges, designed and delivered by a team of professionals including Social Workers, Occupational Therapist, Speech Therapists, Child & Youth Counsellors and a Behaviour Analyst (including academic supports from a certified teacher) – all in one place.

From our Ancaster location in a spacious, natural setting, we offer day programming for children and teens across Hamilton, Halton, Brant, Halton and Niagara. Programs for elementary aged children run for full or half days Tuesday-Thursday, and offer low-ratio, individualized, intensive behavioural and learning support in small groups (needs-based).

For teens, we build custom plans that can include social skill development, life skill coaching, academic and executive function support, and mental health support.  Teens often come in for 3-6 hours at a time and access multiple supports in one block, with time built in for breaks, snacks and movement to support therapeutic learning.

Our Intake Process for Optimal Family Support

All our families come through a comprehensive intake process. Here, we get to know you and your child or teen’s needs via an initial 1:1 appointment for you as parents with our case manager, and a separate (usually simultaneous) session for your child or teen with a carefully matched member of our Behaviour Therapy, Clinical or Therapeutic Coaching team. Once we have gathered all the information required to understand your needs, goals and the important factors in your family’s life, we can put together a customized care plan that sets your family up for success.

Support for Families with Autism

OAP Core Funding has been provided by the government of Ontario to children with an autism diagnosis. This funding is intended to provide long term developmental supports for children up to the age of 18. At NowWhat, we have a dedicated OAP Case Management team who can help your family create and follow through on an evolving plan that includes all wraparound supports (groups, individual therapy, parent support, tech, material, and equipment recommendation letters).  They are your point of contact, and they’re always available to help you with questions and concerns at any time in your journey with NowWhat.  Supports here are designed to grow with your child, with plenty of options for ‘levelling up’ over the long term.

We specialize in crafting wraparound plans that support the whole family over the long term as you help your child work towards greater independence and joyful, meaningful living, whatever that looks like for them!

Depending on your needs, budget, scheduling restrictions and goals, your care plan will include a carefully chosen selection of half or full day programming such as our PowerUp / PowerUp+ (elementary) and SkillUp / SkillUp+ (high school) programs, group programs such as Dungeons & Dragons or TeenzOwnSpeech & Language therapy, Occupational Therapy, or individual work with one of our Therapeutic Coaches or Psychotherapists
