Our brains usually soak up and reproduce speech sounds and language patterns naturally. It’s completely normal for many sounds to take up to 7 years to develop naturally, but sometimes early speech difficulties can also be an indicator of neuro-diversity (brains that process information differently).
Most people don’t know that Speech Language Pathologists work with people of all ages on a huge range of challenges!
Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) work to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat issues with:
- Speech articulation
- Language & literacy
- Social communication & social skills
- Cognitive-communication, working memory
- Swallowing disorders
Our SLP Asia Laviolette treats both children and adults using age-appropriate, strategies, activities and games in 60 minute blocks. Speech therapy can be helpful in early Autism intervention, when managing Learning Disabilities & Communication Disorders, and when correcting general articulation challenges.
Both individual and group settings can be effective when tackling speech and language challenges and we often have fun, engaging children’s groups running with a speech and language focus (see our Calendar for current program offerings). Contact us or talk to our Case Management team today to see if speech therapy is a good fit for you. Individual sessions with our Speech Therapists are covered by most extended benefit plans under SLP, SSAH, Passport & OAP funding.
