Who are Social Sundays for?

  • Kids aged 4-12ish  – grouped by age and developmental stage
  • Kids who can manage independent mobility, toileting/self-care, and verbal communication with age-appropriate levels of support
  • Kids who are still learning to manage impulsivity, bodies in space, hands-on reactivity, and black-&-white thinking, but who do not need 1:1 support to participate in a small group
  • Kids who are capable of meeting the demands of school/sports teams/events most of the time, but who could benefit from learning to tune in to their environment and read the emotional cues of the people around them
  • Kids who are more aware of the social rules and nuances, but who struggle to put them into play because of anxiety, not fitting in, possibly feeling isolated amongst their peers – all of the post-Covid social recovery challenges
  • Kids who struggle to slow down enough to understand and observe their emotional state & self-regulate

What is involved?

  • Understanding how what’s going on inside your body and mind can help you on the outside in your interactions with others (‘boosting your brain from the inside out’), in concrete and practical ways
  • Big focus on learning how your unique brain works for you
  • Each Month will be the ‘same but different’ – learning to follow a routine, use a visual schedule, build somatic body-brain connections via fun activities like tapping/pattern games, and learning a new concept or skill each week
  • The therapeutic skill or concept will be targeted to the needs of the participants – from foundational social skills (greetings, turn-taking, initiating play, asking for what you need, etc) to more sophisticated (social fluency, ‘reading the room’ developing more flexible thinking, cultivating acceptance for those things that can’t be changed, and managing big emotions)
  • Learning how to self-advocate and speak up for what you need in socially effective ways
  • Our clinical team will carefully place your child in the time slot that best suits their stage of development and will match them with the appropriate peer group
